Book Reviews : Mild And Bitter Were The Days
Posted by Landlord on 22 07 10 (125 reads)

This gem of a book by Ken Barlow is worthy of a place in any Wigan Athletic supporters personal library. It tells the story of the club as it was in 1970.

Book Reviews : Kicking Every Ball
Posted by BarStaff on 04 07 09 (413 reads)

Kicking Every Ball by Roberto is easy on the eye, the large print helps old duffers like me & the overall style is laid back but his scribings are concise and it is a insight into the workings of our new gaffer here at the DW Stadium.

For Wigan Athletic fans the details of his former life @ Springfield Park is scarce with the bulk of the book devoted to his time with “The Swans” however this does not detract from a wholesome read about the game.

Book Reviews : Looking Back In Amber
Posted by BarStaff on 29 09 08 (828 reads)

So close to closure

Amongst the dross in the Book Clearance shop I found this gem all about the trials & tribulations of The Tigers.
It is far removed from the Premiership as they almost folded to be lost for ever but a series of events and a diehard fan base helped them to the promised land.

Found this a great read on my hols recently, some quality from the heart writing along with wonderful photos, quite a few in colour, written by a true fan about true fans and the club they love.

Book Reviews : The Road from Wigan Pier
Posted by yotac-admin on 03 06 08 (942 reads)

Andrew Ross has put together a book which in mnay ways echoes this site in reminding people that there was a football club with a distinctive and proud history long before it reached he Premier League promised land.

This isnt just fable of the saving of the club by Dave Whelan, but the longer and more interesting tale of a non league football club founded way back in 1932, and the many twists and turns in the incredible journey through every English League to the very top. Its about a club repeatedly barred from entry to the football league by the old corrupt voting system that favoured retaining hopeless relegation cases over worthy winners from outside the league.

Book Reviews : Who's Who of Wigan Athletic
Posted by yotac-admin on 03 06 08 (967 reads)

If you are going to buy this book, then please buy it via the link to the left. That way at least the site will get something out of a book that is based almost exclusively on the content of this site.

Anyone truly needing a comprehensive guide to the players of Wigan Athletic need only come to the source - YOTAC, as this book is little more than a reproduction of this site's 'Players A to Z' produced without permission or acknowledgement.

The Latic's had never played a season in the Premiership before the start of the 2005/06 season, so to celebrate this historic season in the Premiership, "Breedon Books" have teamed up with "The Wigan Observer" to produce "The Season of Dreams".

Book Reviews : Lets Hang On - Martin Tarbuck
Posted by Landlord on 02 04 08 (894 reads)

Martin Tarbuck's first Latics book relating the story of the 2002-03 season, and what a cracker it is! The book chronicles a season in the life of fan and club, and gives a flavour of what it was to be a Wigan Athletic fan before the Premier League bandwagon hit town.
